Paul Springer Head of Research, Buckinghamshire New University
Professor Paul Springer is Head of Research and Special Projects for the Faculty of Design Media & Management at Buckinghamshire New University, UK. Springer's research addresses advertising and new approaches to mass communications. His bestselling book Ads to Icons, How Advertising Succeeds in a Multimedia Age (2nd edit. Kogan Page 2009) received commendations from, amongst others, the 'Orange Choice Review for Academic Libraries of the United States'. His current book, Pioneers of Digital (written with Microsoft’s Advertising Community Manager Mel Carson) will be launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year. Springer has advised the China Advertising Association, Beijing and has been selected to present ideas for, amongst others, Havas Media (global), R/GA (New York and London), Sunrise Industries (Guangzhou) Trendy International Fashion Group (Shenzhen), Crocus and Reliz (both Moscow) and Design & Art Direction. In 2012 he was selected for the jury of the Okaz Advertising Awards in Saudi Arabia and is involved in initiatives for the London Olympics and a Jeddah College of Advertising – a first for Saudi. Dominic Lyle Director-General, the European Association of Communications Agencies
Dominic Lyle is the Director-General of EACA, the European Association of Communications Agencies, which represents the interests of commercial communications agencies in Europe. He was appointed to EACA in May 2002, having previously spent 25 years in the communications business. Mr Lyle studied International Law at Lausanne University, Switzerland and worked as European Sales & Marketing Manager for a UK food manufacturer based in Frankfurt before moving to London to handle business-to-business PR campaigns for UK companies and industry associations. In 1994 he moved to Brussels to set up a PR company for Omnicom’s global PR Group Porter Novelli handling international clients such as Ericsson, BT Europe, WorldCom, HP, GE Plastics, The European Space Agency and Iomega. From 2000 – 2002, he was Chairman of Porter Novelli’s European technology practice, based in Paris. |

| Prior to working within the agency world, Jon also developed a strong understanding of the important elements of consumer insight and television via his early career roles at Benchmark Research and iTV. Previously, he also undertook higher education studies at Liverpool University & Business School - gaining a degree in Management & Business Economics and a Masters in Marketing Management. More recently, Jon decided to apply his experience and expertise to the growing number of entrepreneurial opportunities within the communications industry. First, he set up an advisory business (Velvet Rock Communications) in 2011 - focusing primarily on helping to drive growth and optimise profitability for a variety of independently-owned businesses in the communications field (particularly within the following areas - mobile, social, online video, experiential, website development and management). Mohammad Kazeroun is a PhD researcher at Bucks New University. He holds an MA degree (with distinction) from the University of Birmingham in Media, Culture and Society, and a BA degree in Sociology from the University of Tehran, Iran. His research interests include social, cultural, and economic implications of the New Media. Vic Davies Course Leader, Bucks New University
Vic Davies began his career in major full service advertising and PR agencies working across variety of major UK and international brands, including PG Tips, British Gas, Mercedes, and the launches of Flora and First Direct. He specialised in media and market research, spending 13 years at what is now the WPP media agency, Mediacom, as a full board director where amongst other projects, he managed research for the launch of Marie Claire and Hello magazines. During that time he developed a strong interest in new technology, including warning the press industry of the threat of new digital technology (see Times Feb 17th 1988). |

| From this he setup his own research company, working for major advertising and telecoms clients, such BT, and Cable and Wireless in the UK and overseas, including EU wide research on video on demand, and television audience research in China. During that time he served on various telecoms industry committees and was a strong advocate of greater investment in a high speed broadband network in the UK to develop the rural economy. From 1999 until 2007 he was course leader for the University of Hertfordshire advertising PR and marketing degree courses, taught at Watford College, as well as running its postgraduate advertising course. Bucks New University appointed him to run its advertising management and digital communications degree in March 2007. He has contributed to various Industry research bodies, including the National Readership Survey’s Main Board and technical subcommittee, the Broadcast Audience Research Board technical subcommittee, the Institute of Practitioners In Advertising Media Advisory Group, and was an elected member of the Media Research Group’s executive committee. In addition he has been regular contributor to advertising and marketing journals, a speaker at numerous conferences and appeared on BBC Breakfast TV, Radio 4’s The World Tonight, and on French TV news. |

Maria Glöckner is a Bachelor student at the NHTV University of Applied Sciences in Breda, the Netherlands. Studying International Media and Entertainment Management she is currently fulfilling her graduation internship at the multichannel advertising agency Davies Meyer in Hamburg, Germany. She is writing her graduation thesis on the development of e-commerce with a focus on Facebook commerce. In 2010 she participated in the Ad Venture contest with a communication campaign for the city of Breda, in which her team ranked 4th. Later that year she took part in the CBBC Intensive Program at the Staffordshire University for a B2B campaign aimed at the North Staffordshire ceramics industry. |

Alicia is about to graduate Buckinghamshire New University in Advertising Management & Digital Communications to begin a life long career in media. Currently working as an Account Executive at Mindshare UK, her particular interest lies within mobile advertising as a result of societal shifts. Mădălina Moraru is a Senior Lecturer Professor Ph.D. of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bucharest, Romania. Her teaching area focuses on advertising, specifically classes of Management of Advertising Agency, Advertising Production and advertising Strategies. Between February 1st and May 1st, 2012 she was hosted by the Research Department of the Staffordshire University, Faculty of Art, Media and Design, UK, being involved in local research activities. Her main interest is the anthropological approach on advertising. She wrote lots of articles and a book on the relationship between myth and advertising, commercial formats and global influence on local market. Prof Derek Godfrey is Deputy Vice Chancellor and Deputy Chief Executive at Buckinghamshire New University, where he has particular responsibility for the Academic Quality, Finance, Human Resources, Strategic Marketing & Communications, and Student Experience Directorates. Derek joined the University in March 2007, having previously held a range of senior technical and commercial roles within Cable & Wireless, BT and GEC/Marconi. He was also Associate Dean for Research and External Affairs in the School of Engineering at Coventry University between 1995 and 1998. |
| In addition to his position at Bucks, Derek is a visiting professor at Coventry University, a role that involves teaching an MSc module in telecommunications at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology in Rwanda. Derek studied Physics and Education at Aston University, before going on to complete a PhD in Surface Physics at Warwick University and a year’s teacher training at Nottingham. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. | |
