The EFCCE Student Competition Jury will consist of senior advertising professionals, academics & professors representing a variety of communication and marketing disciplines from each country. The 2009-2010 Jury will also include towns and cities officials.

Stefan graduated in Sociology-Psychology and has a Master in Advertising.
Since 2007, Stefan is Head of Strategy at Graffiti BBDO Bucharest where he was Senior Strategic Planner between 2005 and 2007.
Previously, he has been Senior Account Manager at Tempo Advertising Bucharest from 2003 to 2005, Account Manager at Friday & Friends Advertising Bucharest from 2001 to 2003, and HR&PR Manager in a Recruitment agency from 2000 to 2001.
Bettina graduated in 1989 in social and commercial communication. Since 2008, she is Professor for Conception and Copy at the design akademie berlin, Academy for Communication and Design. Before, she worked for 19 years in advertising agencies: starting out as a copywriter at Springer & Jacoby, then freelancing for various agencies in Germany and Switzerland. From 1997 to 1999, she has been CCO at Babelfisch Communication, agency for music and youth communication, and then Creative Director at Jung von Matt from 2000-2008.
Jan graduated from the Prague University of Economics. His advertising career started in 1993 as a part time job during his studies.
He became the CEO of McCann in Prague in 2002 and won awards in several international and local creative competitions including the Grand Prix at the Moscow International festival, the Golden Drums and the Golden Hammer plus other awards from the Clio, Epica, Mobidius… competitions.
McCann-Erickson - Prague was also awarded as the fastest growing agency in the Czech Republic last year and as the most effective agency of the year in 2007. Jan is also a Lecturer in commercial communications at the University of Economics in Prague.
John Delacruz graduated in Fine Art. He has experience as an Illustrator, a Printmaker and as a teacher of Art and Design at secondary school-level and of Design History at university-level. He established the Award for Advertising and Brand Management: Award Leader: BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Management at Staffordshire University, Faculty of Arts, Media & Design.
Ivan graduated in 1976 in History of Art and in Graphic Arts.
In 1989, he becomes Associate Professor in the Visual Communications Department at the School of Design of the Faculty of Architecture of the University in Zagreb, where he still teaches. In 2002, Ivan also becomes lecturer in the Department for Marketing Communications at the College of AGORA in Zagreb. In 1998 he was the Director of ZGRAF 6 (International Exhibition of Graphic Design and Visual Communications) held triennially in Zagreb.
From 1998 to 2002 he was the General Manager and the Art Director in his own studio for graphic design and visual communications - Doroghy design.
From 2000 to 2004 he held the position of Art Director in the marketing agency McCANN Erickson - Croatia, for which he still occasionally works as consultant.
Since 2002 he has been working as the Art Director for the Zagreb Tourist Board managing different projects promoting tourism of the city of Zagreb, as well as similar projects of promotion of tourism in Croatia, organized by the Croatian Tourist Board.
He was a member of the Expert Jury of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia for design solutions of Croatian participation at the world exhibitions in Japan (Expo 2005, Aichi) and China (Expo 2010, Shanghai).
Johnathan started his career in 2002 as a media planner for OMD. After two years of learning foundation industry skills he moved into communications planning at Rocket. Here he won a Campaign award for his Fruittella campaign that was not only successful but created an IP that recouped 50% of the campaign costs through saleable merchandise.
After time at Rocket he was asked to work for Goodstuff Communications with the challenge of bringing iconic footwear brand Dr.Martens back into fashion globally. This resulted in the creation of a two year cultural movement strategy that ultimately saw sales of the 1460 boot, increase by 200%. He also developed regular campaigns for Virgin Mobile, Virgin Media's TV Channels and Xbox.
In 2008 Fraser became a senior strategist at Naked, working primarily on Sony, Axe (Lynx in the Uk) and Naked's pitches. At the beginning of April 2010 Fraser was appointed to Head of Planning for agency, Holler.’
Paulina holds a master's degree in History and post-graduate qualification in Business Administration.
Paulina is Managing Director of Taurus Consultants. Her previous experience comprises five years of in-depth knowledge and analysis of the Bulgarian media, advertising and PR sectors, leveraged in the authorship of more than 100 articles while holding the position of Editor in The Capital weekly.
Her professional experience began in the New Bulgarian University Public Relations Department and then she became Executive Director of the New Bulgarian University’s Postgraduate School.
Monique Gerritsen holds a Masters in Economic Sciences from the Catholic University of Louvain (KUL). She started her career in 1981 at the J. Walter Thompson communications agency.
For 20 years she worked as Client Services Director and as a member of the Management team in several international communications agencies (JWT, Grey Worldwide, McCann Erickson and Young & Rubicam) and managed clients in different sectors on a national and an international level.
Guest lecturer at the EPHEC since 1999, she started to teach in 2002 and helped to found the communication option in the Haute Ecole EPHEC’s Marketing section.
Ms. Gerritsen also works as HR consultant at HC Consulting (direct search & recruitment office), is a freelance communication consultant and has been a member of the EFFIE Awards’ Organisation Committee for 17 years.
Jiří vice-president and executive director of Czech Association of Communications Agencies (AKA). He began his advertising career in 1991 opening the Prague office of Euro RSCG. In 1994 he joined Mark BBDO as Client Service Director. In 2003, he returned to Euro RSCG - where he opened a daughter agency Dream Studios - before being elected Executive Director of the AKA in April 2005. Prior to his advertising career Jiri was for eight years a general manager of Czechoslovak Filmexport, the foreign trade agency selling Czech films as well as production services and location facilities. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and after finishing his study of Political Science in Paris Jiri began his career in 1971 as a journalist in popular weekly magazine Mlady svet and soon became one of its leading writers. After publishing two books on the new wave of Czech cinema in mid sixties he has had a dozen non-fiction books published on his journalistic experience which sold over 750 000 copies.
Chris is a qualified linguist and translator, but has spent most of his career as a journalist, writing mainly for international business publications. After a spell in Brussels covering the work of the European Parliament, he was responsible for the launch of a new publication focusing on regions and cities and their role in the EU, a job which brought him into regular contact with the press and communication team at the Committee of the Regions. It was only a matter of time before he made the switch from journalist to press officer, joining the CoR press team in January 2009. He has since also taken on the role of coordinating, improving and updating the Committee's website, including the roll out of new pages dedicated to regions and cities in each EU member state.
Michael holds an MBA in Media Management from the University of Applied Science in St. Pölten. He has worked at the Eurocom Sales Promotion as Account Director where he was responsible for Vichy, Procter & Gamble and BTL activities for Peugeot. Then, he became member of the board. He also worked at Grill & Gull Thompson Vienna as Account Director where he was responsible for Alfa Romeo, Rolex, Shell and Kodak.
He also has been Client Service Director and then member of the board at Ogilvy & Mather Vienna, providing full service to the following clients: OeNB. Raiffeisen Gruppe, R-Versicherung, EVN, Uniqa. Moreover, he has been Managing Director at Ogilvy Public Affairs where he was responsible for the political management of the Austrian people's party, some Federal Ministries, and in charge of different election campaigns. Today, he is managing director of Lowe GGK in Vienna.
He won for example the following prizes: 2006 and 2009 shortlists in Cannes for our client Austrian Lotteries, many CCA-venus for different clients, Gold Effies for our client debra austria, “butterfly children”, direct marketing award “columbus”.
He is the author of the book “Direktwerbung. Ein praktischer Leitfaden” published by Ueberreuter. And, he has been a Lecturer for Directmarketing at the WIFI-Wien.
Yvonne Koert graduated from the Erasmus University in 1985 in Business Economics. She started her career as a Sales Manager with IBM in the Netherlands. Later on she worked with Shell for 12 years, starting out as a crude oil trader, moving on through retail, planning, management and became a director of retail education in Shell.
Meanwhile, she achieved a master in communication in 1996 and in psychology in 2002. In 2005, she switched careers and joined Avans University of Applied Sciences as a teacher. In 2008 she started to work on a new 4 years program on innovation called ABC (Advanced Business Creation) within Avans, a programme that was accredited and began in 2009. In 2009, she also started a 4 year PhD programme in pedagogy with a focus on teaching creativity within the context of the cognitive load theory.
Konrad Maric, Vice President of the Professional Association for Advertising and Market Communication Industry, is the owner of the Maric & Rinaldin GmbH full service communication agency and “Adviser for European Communication” with offices in Vienna and Brussels.
The Head of Communication of the Viennese SPÖ (Austrian Social Democratic Party) and a communication and election consultant in several European countries until 1992, 15 years ago he founded the “euroforum:communication vienna” network as an exchange platform for European communication specialists with its numerous events in Austria and the EEC.
This qualified electronics engineer studied Business Administration in Vienna and is seen as a recognised expert in EU communication, communication restrictions (advertising bans) and self-regulation of the industry.
An Oxford graduate, Amanda has worked at several agencies including McCann Erickson Manchester, and has considerable experience across a vast array of clients. She has spent the last two years as a Director at Yes Agency in Staffordshire.
Amanda’s experience includes launching over 100 Vintage Inns for Bass and managing the promotional activity for Marston’s Pedigree and Low ‘C. She also won an industry effectiveness award for her work on BMI. Her financial services experience ranges from Portman Building Society and HBOS through to sub-prime lenders Moneyplus and blackandwhite.co.uk.
With the education sector she recently handled the accounts for Newcastle-under-Lyme College, Aspire (a consortium of Staffordshire-based FE colleges), Burton College and the University of Central Lancashire. Amanda has also worked on numerous clients within the community sector including EPIC, Staffordshire Housing Association and Aspire Housing.
She currently leads the accounts for ConstructionSkills (the sector skills council for the construction industry), Connexions Derbyshire, UK Trade & Investment, the Learning and Skills Council and a consortium of Local Authorities. In her spare time she has worked with Active Anglo-Chinese Communications in London on a number of their guide books, giving UK businesses and university students all they need to know to work or study in China and vice versa. She is currently a Board Trustee for Partners in Creative Learning – a delivery organisation for the Government’s flagship Creative Partnerships programme and lectures from time to time on Staffordshire University’s Advertising and Brand Management degree course.
Jiri spent about 40 years in advertising (Czechoslovak advertising agency: Rapid, Promotion company Merkur, McCann Prague Director, Copywriter, President of the Czech Ad.Standard Council, Director of the Czech Association of Communication Agencies, Member of EACA board of Directors, Jury chairman of Tourfilm-Carlsbad, Ambassador of Golden Drum).He is the coauthor of two books on Advertising and Corporate Image. He is also member of the Council for Czech Tourism. He is considered as the first Czech Adman.
Nicola Vatthauer has been working as Communications Director for EUROCITIES, the network of major European cities, since 2004. Before joining EUROCITIES, Nicola was Communications Manager for EUREKA, the pan-European research initiative which brings together business and public sector for cross-border research. Previously, Nicola was a free-lance journalist, writing in English and German for specialist and general newspapers and magazines on European research policy and cultural identity. Nicola has a Masters degree in Sociology, specialised in environmental sociology.
Laszlo graduated at University of Lincolnshire and Humberside with an MBA degree.
He started his career at the media department of Ogilvy and Mather in 1996. After a rapid start, he became senior media planner from 1999, working on all major clients like Ford, IBM, Duracell, etc.
In 1999 he joined Initiative Media, where he became Media Director and responsible for TV Negotiations. Two years after, he became the main negotiatior of Magna Global in Hungary (consolidated buying power of Initiative and Universal McCann). He was/is responsible for the media activities of Unilever, Ferrero, Heineken, GE Money Bank, Burger King and many others. During the past decade his team won dozens of Effies for their successful campaigns.
Since 2008, he has been the COO of Initiative Hungary and the Managing Director of Magna Global Hungary.
Sorin started to work in advertising in 1994 at BBDO Romania as a Research Manager and became Integrated Communication Director in January 2008.
He is responsible for supervising the communications strategies for major international and national clients of BBDO Romania such as Wrigley, Pepsi, Dacia-Renault, Bayer, Masterfoods, Scandia (national market leader of canned food) etc.
Since 1996 Sorin is also a full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the University of Bucharest. The main subjects he teaches are consumer behaviour and market research. Last year he coached 4 teams of students for the Ad Venture competition, out of which one team came fourth.
Roberto holds a Bachelor Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona, and he is finishing a Bachelor Degree in Marketing Research. He is a professor of Advertising and Public Relations at the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona.
He also works as a Copywriter in Young & Rubicam Barcelona and has worked for clients such as Danone, Kraft, Nutrexpa, Gallina Blanca Star among others. Before Y&R he worked for various international and national companies.
Gerald studied in Berlin: Communication planning and brand development. The subject of his diploma thesis was “How art is used in advertising?”
He has been Conceptionist for Institutional Communication in various agencies such as GGK, DDB Neddham, Saatchi & Saatchi for various clients such as Porsche Design, Volkswagen, Mobil, Procter & Gamble…
Since 1996, he runs his own agency specialized in Corporate Communications and since 2008 he is Lecturer for graphic design and market communications at Werbe Akademie Wien.
Grazyna holds a postgraduate degree in applied social psychology from the Warsaw Academy of Applied Psychology.
She has worked both on “the client side” and on the “agency side”.
She has worked at the PepsiCo Poland/ Tricon in the operational and marketing department where she was responsible for Pizza Hut & KFC.. She then became KFC and Pizza Hut Brand Manager and PR Manager for PepsiCo Restaurants. She has also worked as Senior Brand Manager for Kama Foods: Znakomita.
On the agency side, she has been Strategic Manager and then Strategic Director at BBDO Warsaw’s Strategy Department, providing service to brands from a range of market sectors including: mBank, Multibank, GE Money Bank, Polish Telecom, Bayer, P&G, Mars Polska, PepsiCo, Wrigley.
She won various Effie Prizes: in 2001 for a campaign developed for mBank, in 2003 with ICI Dulux, in 2005 with GE Money Bank, in 2007 with Bayer and in 2008 with the SOS Children Villages charity.
She is also a Lecturer at the Polish Advertising Association’s School of Brand Strategy and at the Academy of Marketing Communication. She is member of the EFFIE Committee and the PAA’a Strategy Club.
Ljubomir graduated in Literatures and Linguistics (Magna cum Laude). He has been Assistant Director in Saatchi & Saatchi, Copywriter/Creative Director in DMB&B, Executive Creative Director in Nestlé Deutschland, Communication Director.
Michael Conrad & Leo Burnett, Frankfurt. Sine 1996, he is Executive Creative Director in Publicis Frankfurt. Helga Van den Bulck graduated from the Free University of Brussels with a master degree in Communication Sciences. Her university education included an internship at the research department of the Flemish public broadcasting company and open programme courses in international political sciences at the University of Cambridge and at the Université de Caen (France).
For two years she worked in the printed media sector as an advertising consultant. From that time on she started teaching advertising courses at graduate and postgraduate level in various institutions.
Currently she teaches advertising, international corporate and intercultural communication at the Plantijn University of Applied Sciences in Antwerp for Belgian and international students.
To keep up with continuous changes in the communications landscape she has taken part in various programmes in Amsterdam and worked briefly in New York. She is extensively involved in many national and international projects with advertising agencies, which are all focused on strategy development and campaign planning.
After his studies in Consumer psychology and a brief passage at an established agency (BBDO Belgium), Piet chooses to join a new, starting agency at which he would spend the next 10 years of his professional life. This upstart having become itself an established agency, he then decides to start over. After a management buy-out from the BBDO-network, and together with some trusted friends and partners, he now manages Germaine– a young, eager and independent agency in Antwerp, Belgium.
ROUND TWO (7th May in Berlin)
Peter John studied Economics and Law and co-founded a law firm in Hamburg. His agency life started 1993 at Jung von Matt in Hamburg where he established the Planning department. He worked with Audi as client and build an international Planning Group working on European Launches. In 1997 he left the agency and was founding Partner of Pentagon Network Marketing, working on strategic and creative developments for clients and agencies.
He left Germany in 1998 to work with DDB International in London as International Senior Account Planner. He was heading and coordinating planning on Volkswagen Accounts for the DDB Network worldwide. His responsibilities included the coordination of pan-European campaign development for launch and major lifecycle campaigns. Together with Volkswagen Management Peter John developed a multibrand strategy for the Volkswagen Group that was awarded with the Deutscher Marketingpreis. He came back to Jung von Matt in 1999 as Managing Director and worked on international accounts like Wella Haircare and BMW. One of his most-loved jobs was to develop a communication strategy for the international MINI launch. In 2001, he was promoted and became member of the executive board of Jung von Matt AG.
Since April 2004 Peter John is CEO at Draftfcb Germany. Additionally, in September 2008, he was elected President of GWA – Gesamtverband Kommunikationsagenturen – (The Association of Germany’s Communications Agencies).
Jordi has a bachelor’s degree in Communications Sciences, with a specialty in Advertising and Public Relations from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. In addition, he has a degree in Marketing Management from the Escuela Superior de Dirección y Administración de Empresas (ESADE). He also graduated in Summa Cum Laude with a PhD in Communications Sciences.
He has worked for 20 years as Account manager in advertising agencies such as McCann Erickson, Bassat Ogilvy & Mather, MMLB and Puzzle Newton 21, managing the advertising and communications of both national and international advertisers and companies. His work has been for both private and public sectors, as well as political parties.
Some of the advertisers he has worked for are: Frigo, Levi’s, Black & Decker, Agip, the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, the Catalonian Government (Generalitat de Catalunya), Dietisa, Starlux, Caja de Ahorros de Navarra, Nutrexpa, Gallina Blanca Purina, Yamaha, Olivetti, Codorniu, Sara Lee Corp., Merck Laboratories, ZYMA Pharmaceutical, Ferrero Ibérica…
Jordi also has an academic experience. Currently, he is a professor and coordinator for the PR and Advertising Department of the Blanquerna Department of Communication Sciences at the Ramón Lull University in Barcelona. He teaches Planning and Advertising courses. He also directs specialized seminars, is responsible for the Department of Internships in Companies and directs the Investigation Team of Image and Communications in Specialized and Emerging Media, where projects are developed both in the private and public sectors. In addition, he regularly collaborates at the Pompeu Fabra University, University of Barcelona and the Superior Institute of Marketing (ISM-ESIC).
Barbara Hetwig graduated in Social and Economic Communication (Diplom-Kommunikationswirtin) at the University of Arts in Berlin in 1990. From 1990 to 1995, she was a scientific assistant in the field of social and economic communication in this same university.
In 1990, she started lecturing in the fields of marketing and communications at amongst others the University of the Arts Berlin, Selcuk University Konya, Muchina Institute St. Petersburg and the design akademie berlin, Deutsche Angestellten Akademie, She is also a Communication Consultant for the Frankfurt Fair, Web.de, Lufthansa City Center and IKON Sicherheitstechnik GmbH.
In 1999, she was appointed as Managing Director of the design akademie berlin, Faculty of Communication Management which became a state approved college in 2007.
Laurent graduated in Economy. He has been working at the Committee of the Regions since 1994.
Previously, he was President of the Sport Marketing branch of Havas from 1999 to 2002, Director General of the Organisation Committee of the Mediterranean Games from 1988 to 1993.
He also has been the Communication and Cabinet Director of the French Region: Languedoc-Roussillon from 1986 to 1988.
Between 1982 and 1986, he was a Journalist specialized in European affairs and between 1979 and 1981, he was the Assistant of a Deputy at the French Parliament.
After working as a scriptwriter for BRT (Belgium television) and illustrator for Flair magazine, Guillaume began his copywriting career at McCann-Erickson in 1981.
In 1985, he moved to TBWA and soon after joined Young & Rubicam in 1986 where in the early nineties he was part of a select group of global creative directors.
In 1996, together with André Duval, Guillaume co-founded Belgium's top creative agency Duval Guillaume, with offices in Brussels and Antwerp. They are currently starting up Duval Guillaume in New York where Guillaume is Creative Director. Their clients include InBev, Virgin Airlines, Sara Lee, Carlsberg, Spa mineral water, Dexia Bank, Hyundai, Spar, Ricard, Radio 1 and Belgacom amongst others.
In 1997, Guillaume wrote and illustrated 'The Simple Truth About Advertising'. "This amusing little book will not teach you how to become a great advertiser - but at least should help you understand why you're not", quoted Sir Richard Branson. The same year, Guillaume was chosen to sit on the Cannes Lions Film jury.
Guillaume has won many international awards, including 11 Cannes Lions, and Duval Guillaume was the most awarded agency of the year at the 2003 Eurobest awards.
During 2006 and 2007, he has been Speaker at "I love magazines" Sanoma in Budapest, Jury Chairman of the Third annual Advertising Festival of Poland, Participant at Shots Forum in London, speaker at Radio Days in Köln, jury D&AD global awards in London, speaker at Club Criativos in Portugal, judge at the Marketing Awards in Toronto and judge at Effie Awards in Brussels.
In 2009, he wrote a book under the title: Hero brands.

Cliff Van Wyk has an important experience in the marketing communications industry. He worked with and for Unilever, IBM, Dell, Dulux, Nestle, Coca-Cola and HSBC. He has been Partner at BrandSmart Consulting, Director & Head of Regional Advertising Centre - Africa at Lowe Worldwide, Managing Director at Column Communications and Marketing Manager at 3M South Africa.
His areas of specializations are creativity in communications, advertising to subcultures and multinational audiences. He has presented papers at several international conferences on various aspects of consumer behaviours and communications.
He is currently Senior Lecturer at the Advertising and Marketing Communications Media School of the Bournemouth University.
