EU citizens have remained for the most part uninvolved, uninformed and largely unimpressed.
The EU seems like a distant entity
- A minority of EU citizens (42%) believe the EU has a significant impact on their everyday life
EU citizens tend to ignore EU elections
- Less than 50% of the population voted in the last European Parliament election in Estonia, Latvia & the UK
- Around 50% of the population voted in the last European Parliament election in the Czech Rep., Poland, Slovakia & Sweden
The EU appears to be an over-complicated beast
- One EU citizen out of two believes the EU deals with issues which are too complex for them
National & regional politicians and press have not endorsed a constructive role in communicating European policies to a larger public.
